A MALVERN East fashion designer has been announced the Victorian winner of the highly-coveted 2012 Entrepreneurs Scholarship.
Lisa Barron won the 12-month scholarship from womens professional development, mentoring and networking company Behind Closed Doors.
Ms Barron said she started her fashion journey 30 years ago with $500, a portable sewing machine and a car when she moved to Melbourne on a mission to make her dream come true.
“It’s just something that’s always driven me,” Ms Barron said.
Ms Barron, who now has two shops in Armadale and South Yarra, said even after more than three decades in the industry, she still loved it.
“There’s a lot of challenges, it changes and it’s global.”
Behind Closed Doors founder Donny Walford said the entrepreneurs program provided female business owners and entrepreneurs with a support network and the opportunity to discuss challenges, growing the business and being held accountable in a confidential environment.
“While the scholarship attracted an impressive array of applicants the judges felt that Lisa was the standout winner and her career journey and entrepreneurial spirit was nothing short of inspirational,” Ms Walford said.
