behind closed doors Luminaries membership was created in response to a need for aspiring businesswomen to have a support network where they can discuss professional issues and challenges in a totally confidential environment, while at the same time encourage each other to extend themselves further to achieve and succeed in new environments.

Since 2012, behind closed doors has offered an annual scholarship to an aspiring female leader to receive a 12-month behind closed doors Luminaries membership in Adelaide. In 2013, Natalie Wallace was awarded a scholarship in Perth and in 2017 we are again seeking applicants from Perth.

The objectives of the Luminaries membership is to:

  • Deliver practical management and leadership sessions to generate more effective leaders.
  • Provide a confidential businesswomen’s support network.
  • Extend individuals personally and professionally.
  • Encourage and support members to nominate for Board and committee positions.
  • Mentor peers to accept greater professional challenges and roles.
  • Assist members to participate in awards programs such as the Telstra Business Women’s Awards.
  • Increase the calibre and expertise of female managers and leaders within organisations.
  • Provide a clear development path for women moving through to executive roles.

The scholarship recipient will be assigned to a behind closed doors Luminaries group in Perth.

Perth Luminaries groups meet 10 times a year.  Each session runs for three hours from 12pm to 3pm at a Boardroom located at one of our supporters in the CBD and includes a light lunch.

behind closed doors Luminaries is designed for businesswomen and leaders of the future who are aspiring to move into executive management positions. To be eligible, you must currently be in a functional leadership role or people management role and can demonstrate:

  • Leadership ability and exceptional teamwork
  • Why the scholarship will benefit you
  • How the scholarship will benefit your organisation

Finalists must be

  • Open to receiving publicity for participating in/receiving the Scholarship
  • Available for finalist interviews to be held between 1pm and 5pm Wednesday 19 April 2017.
  • Available to attend the announcement event to be held 5:30pm Thursday 27 April 2017.
  • Based in Perth and able to attend monthly meetings based in the city/city fringe

To apply for the behind closed doors Luminaries scholarship you must submit:

  • in 1,000 words or less, an application addressing the three eligibility criteria
  • a one-page curriculum vitae and
  • a high resolution head and shoulders professional photo of yourself that can be used on our website/social media and in any media announcements relating to the Behind Closed Doors Scholarship.  By submitting your photograph, you agree to grant Behind Closed Doors a perpetual, royalty-free, non exclusive right to use, reproduce, publish, distribute, make available to the public and exercise all copyright and publicity rights with respect to your photograph worldwide.

Applications must be emailed to by 12pm Friday 7 April, 2017.

Judging Process

Upon receipt of written applications, a shortlist of 5 finalists will be invited to attend a 30 minute panel interview at KPMG, 235 St Georges Terrace, Perth.  Finalists will be scheduled an interview time between 1pm and 5pm Wednesday 19 April 2017.

The final five finalists will be invited to attend the behind closed doors Connexions event to be held 5:30pm Thursday 27 April 2017 at BDO, 38 Station Street, Subiaco. The recipient of the scholarship will be announced publicly at this event.
