Senior Manager Group Risk & Compliance/Chief Risk Officer - RAA
BCD Executive Member, Adelaide
Tell us about your role and what keeps you engaged at work:
My role is to lead a high performing team that partners with the business in ensuring that we protect the brand of South Australia’s largest and oldest member organisation.
What is your greatest career achievement:
My greatest career achievement would be my admission to the Supreme Court of South Australia as a barrister.
Can you tell us about a challenge you have faced and how you overcame this:
The most recent challenge that comes to mind would be the year of 2020 and the role that my team needed to play in responding to the Global Pandemic as well as continuing on with business as usual. How we overcame the challenges of responding came down to the capability and competency of the team, daily check-ins and very open and honest communication.
A longer term challenge has been the education to the organisation of the role that risk & compliance plays and elevating the role of risk and compliance. How we have overcome this is through constant education sessions/workshops and asking to be part of decision making. This continues to be an ongoing journey but is definitely proving to be a worthwhile investment.
What is the one key reason you continue to be involved with behind closed doors:
Each month catching up with aspirational women knowing that what we discuss will remain within the confines of the room. It enables an unbiased lens to be placed on situations/problems by others not within the industry/organisation and for me to be challenged in a safe environment. Even when there are times I just do not feel that I can invest the time, I go along and always am glad I did. I learn something new at every meeting and also hope that my investment assists others. I enjoyed mentoring younger leaders and just being part of a network that I know I can always rely on.
